David A. Arnold passed away today, September 7. He was a comedian, actor, writer, and producer who starred in two Netflix comedy specials, worked on the Fuller House revival for the streaming service, and produced the Nickelodeon sitcom That Girl Lay Lay. He was 54.
He supported families by inventing and creating That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon. On behalf of the entire Nickelodeon staff, we condolences to his family, friends, and support.

When Arnold died, he was three stops into a four-month national comedy tour.
He was a great comedian, and you couldn’t help but notice it whenever he would perform. he was like a big ball of sunshine and light that always made your eyes shan. But he had an edge to him, which you find very attractive, but also somewhat interesting.

The comedy world “mourns the loss of one of the greatest to ever do it,” according to comedian Chris Spencer, a close friend of Arnold. Arnold, a native of Cleveland, was also described as being “admired by his colleagues, respected by other veterans, and revered by the burgeoning comedians he taught. “That Girl Lay Lay,” about an avatar who comes to life to aid a young girl and her pals in navigating their lives, was likewise created, show-run by, and executive produced by Arnold. The show, created by Will Packer Media, debuted in September 2021, and in January, it was renewed for Season 2.
He had stand-up gigs lined up in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Later this month, as well as in early October, in Atlanta and Nashville.
Other writing credits for Arnold include “The Rickey Smiley Show” on TV One, “The Real Husbands of Hollywood” on BET, and the Tyler Perry comedies “Meet the Browns” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” on TBS.

His friend and fellow comic Chris Spencer told The Times, “Our tight-knit comedy community mourns the death of one of the greatest to do it.”
“The budding comedians revered him. He was coached, respected by other veterans, and looked up to by his peers.
His comedy community, in particular, will miss him greatly.
“I recently learned of @David A. Arnold’s demise. The last time I laughed with him, I was standing 25 feet away,” tweeted comic Eric Schwartz.
He was among the funniest people alive today and one of the best comedians.
Now that I have to perform on stage and attempt to be humorous, I’m crushed.
