Shakhtar vs Real Madrid, the match on Tuesday ended up with a scary injury. Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger was the hero of his team in that match by earning a 1-1 Draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland to punch a ticket to the Champions League. This draw meant Real Madrid advanced to the knockout stage ahead of their next group game at RB Leipzig on 25 Oct.
At the 95th minute Antonio Rudiger’s goal help Madrid to qualify for the UCL knockout stage. The former Chelsea man Rudiger got into the heart of the box and headed home off the right post with a delightful touch, but he paid the price. After getting a touch on the ball, Rudiger collided with Trubin in a violent clash taking the goalkeeper’s shoulder and face to his face before having his head slam against the ground.
The facial injuries are not new for the center back though. He has also suffered a broken jaw against Madrid two seasons ago en route to winning the Champions League with Chelsea and he had a bone injury on the side of his face.
After the collision, he tried to get up but could barely stand as his classic white jersey was painted red. According to Cope, he did need 20 stitches to his forehead, and he will go for tests to see if there is any type of fracture to his face.
Donetsk went ahead one minute into the second half in Warsaw when Bohdan found Zubkov unmarked in Real’s box and the midfielder nodded home into the bottom right corner. However, Antonio leveled five minutes into stoppage time by taking advantage of a neat pass from midfielder Kroos to deny Shakhtar a famous victory. The draw did at least stop Madrid from immediately advancing to the knockout stage, although Carlo Ancelotti’s men can secure their spot in their next group game at RB Leipzig on Oct-25. Real Madrid, who lacked sharpness and their usual killer instinct, had a chance to take an early lead through Benzema in the 18th minute but the Frenchman, who struck from close range, was denied by goalkeeper Trubin.
Anatoliy extremely busy between the posts in Warsaw, pulled off another great save to deny a low shot by Karim in the 36th minute and denied Rodrygo a minute later by stopping a shot from going inside the left post. The Donetsk goalkeeper was alert just before half-time to parry a dangerous long shot by Real midfielder Federico over the bar.
Carlo Ancelotti said that we played badly, sometimes it happens in football, we had the game under control in the first half. And we tried to play inside, not outside, it was more complicated after we lost a bit of balance. And we conceded and suffered on the counter, sometimes that happens. Explaining it is difficult. There are games you have under control and you concede a goal and the morale of the opponent grows. The positive is we didn’t give up as always, beating Real is not easy, we are into the round of 16 and only those who go through can win the Champions League.
